Mob Ties Cleric and Married Woman to Tree in Bihar Village; Panchayat Imposes Fine as Viral Video Sparks Outrage

A viral video from Bihar’s Supaul district shows villagers tying a cleric and a married woman to a tree and beating them after allegedly finding them in a compromising situation. A disturbing incident from Bihar’s Supaul district has drawn widespread attention after a video surfaced showing a local cleric and a married woman being tied to a tree and assaulted by villagers. The pair was allegedly found in a compromising situation, prompting residents to take the law into their own hands before summoning a village council.

According to local accounts, the mob restrained both individuals and beat them while recording the episode on mobile phones. Once the matter reached the village panchayat, the council imposed a monetary penalty on the cleric. As additional security, his motorcycle and mobile phone were reportedly taken into custody by the council until the fine is paid.

The footage of the confrontation has since gone viral across social media platforms, triggering sharp reactions over vigilantism and the public humiliation of the two individuals. Police officials have confirmed that an inquiry is underway, and efforts are being made to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident as well as the actions of those involved.

The episode has reignited conversations about rising instances of mob justice in rural regions, highlighting ongoing challenges in enforcing the rule of law and safeguarding individual rights. The outcome of the police investigation is expected to play a crucial role in determining accountability and addressing broader concerns over community-led punishment.
